This roomy one-bedroom in Flatbush close to Ditmas Park appears in move-in condition and has four closets and some vintage details like a dining nook, arched doorways, and wood floors. It is on the second floor of the elevator building at 1825 Foster Avenue.
Originally known as the Foster Arms, the Colonial Revival-style red-brick building was designed by Morris Rothstein & Son with restrained details like a broken pediment and a Greek key pattern rendered in brick at the roofline, ornamenting the window sills of the central bay, and running above the main entrance. The original certificate of occupancy shows the six-story, 54-unit elevator building was completed in 1941, and an early brochure touted built-in bookcases, spacious closets, and cross ventilation.
This apartment still has its original layout, as shown in the early floor plans. The foyer, with a built-in niche with shelves, has arched door openings to the large living room and a short hall. The latter leads to the kitchen with dining nook, the bedroom, and full bath. The listing includes an alternative floor plan suggesting dividing the living room to create a second bedroom, but this would create a windowless living room.
Wood floors extend through the main spaces, there is white trim throughout, and many of the rooms have picture rails.
The living room is spacious enough for a seating and dining area. The corner windows appear to have a courtyard view.
While a new owner might want to give the kitchen a style upgrade, it appears in fine condition. There are slab front cabinets, a tile floor, and a beige tile backsplash with accent tiles.
The floor tile extends past the half wall into the dining nook. It benefits from windows on two exposures.
Two of the four closets in the unit are in the bedroom. The room also has windows on two exposures and can easily fit a king-sized bed.
The bathroom got a beige makeover at some point, with oversized floor tiles and wall tiles with accents. The original white tub and toilet are still in place, but a wood vanity has replaced the pedestal sink.
There is laundry in the building as well as a live-in super, community room, gym, bike room, and shared courtyard. There are private storage spaces, but it isn’t mentioned if there is a waiting list or additional fee. Maintenance for this unit is $915 a month and the listing notes there is a $157.20 per month assessment through December of this year.
An open house is set for Sunday, February 1 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Michael Tannen and Kirra Caruso of Corcoran have the listing, and the apartment is priced at $575,000.
