In Crown Heights, this one-bedroom has gleaming wood floors, storage space, and an eat-in kitchen. The third-floor unit is in 960 Sterling Place, a six-story apartment building within the Crown Heights North II Historic District.
Dating to 1938, the red brick building at the corner of New York Avenue was designed by Brooklyn architect Jacob W. Sherman, according to the designation report. The Colonial Revival building replaced the church and parsonage of St. Paul’s Congregational Church, which sold their property in 1937 after a merger with another congregation. Colonial Revival details on the building include brick quoining, keystone lintels, and an entrance on Sterling Place with a columned portico.
The living room and bedroom are on opposite ends of this unit and both are generously sized. Wood floors run throughout the main rooms and, while there are some pops of color, most of the walls and trim are white.
A foyer is large enough for a desk or bookshelves and also has two closets. An arched doorway leads to the living room which, the listing photos show, is large enough to accommodate a seating area as well as room for dining. Picture rails ring the room.
The kitchen is accessible via the dining nook off the living room and via a hall off the foyer. While the walls in the kitchen and nook are a bold yellow the major finishes are neutral, with white cabinets and counters and a beige tile floor. Appliances include a dishwasher.
There are more picture rails in the bedroom along with soft green walls and white trim. There are two windows providing a courtyard view.
Fixtures in the bathroom are white, and the walls are covered in white tiles with black border tiles. Based an original floor plan a large closet was likely once a built-in shower.
Additional storage in the building has a waitlist, but the listing notes other amenities include a live-in super, bike storage, laundry, and a newly landscaped garden. Maintenance for this unit is $966 a month. The listing notes there is a capital assessment in place through the end of 2025.
Annika Grove of Compass has the listing and it is priced at $625,000. What do you think?
