Cobble Hill Brooklyn Apartment for Rent -- 132 Kane Street

This striking townhouse, at 132 Kane Street in Cobble Hill, comes to us via Dixon, the Australian firm that’s been buying, renovating and renting Brooklyn townhouses at a furious clip in recent years. With its modernist design, this one’s a departure for the group, which has restored quite a few historic Brooklyn properties.

Said design was “inspired by early-20th-century modern French architects and designers such as Le Corbusier, Robert Mallet Stevens, Pierre Chareau, and Jean Prouve,” according to the listing, from Dixon Leasing’s Joshua Carney. The result “exhibits a refined industrialism paired with understated luxury.”

They didn’t cut any corners with this one, with features including poured concrete kitchen counters, radiant-heated en suite baths in each of the four bedrooms, dark-washed wood floors, high-end appliances, and a giant wine cellar with towering wine refrigerators, where you could host a party for the staff of Wine Spectator.

The street level is housed in an old storefront (yes, Dixon restored it). It makes for a distinctive living area, with a wall of frosted glass fronting onto Kane Street. That towering concrete fireplace is quite the distinctive feature as well.

The modernist design theme carries through to the look of the kitchen and the baths, which pair marble counters and geometric-patterned cement tile.

There’s a rec room in the finished basement, a terrace, a roof deck, a full-sized Bosch washer and dryer and a dedicated parking spot (though the listing doesn’t specify exactly where). All told there’s just under 3,600 square feet, on four levels.

You’re expecting a massive price tag by now, and we won’t disappoint: The cost is $17,485 a month. Which reflects the net cost on a 16-month lease with two months free.

This one’s been sitting for a while — it hit the market in July of last year with a price tag of $24,995 a month. Since then it’s gone though a number of price drops (including a whopping $5 cut at the beginning of the year.)

  1. I walk by this daily, didn’t realize it was Dixon that bought it. This property is on the corner, the garage is behind it on Cheever Pl. And there’s a another 3 story house next to the garage spot on Cheever Pl which they must be renting separately.

    $20k discounted to $17.5k is still too much. It’s also quite taste specific.

  2. Yikes, I would not be okay with those massive windows directly at sidewalk level. Looks cool from the inside, but absolutely zero privacy. This, to me, is a house that is very well-staged. There isn’t much that is particularly special about it, aside from the massive pricetag. I suspect that’s part of why it’s sitting on the market.
