Closings have started to pop up in public records for Habitat for Humanity’s recently completed affordable housing project in Brownsville. The 41-unit condo was completed in September and thus far 27 families have moved in, according to a Habitat spokeswoman. All of the units, which were made available to folks making between 45 and 80 percent of the city’s median income, have been spoken for. Buyers needed to work a minimum of 300 hours to help build their homes, and the average price in the condo was $145,000. GMAP

Looks nice and I love Habitat for Humanity. But isn’t this location directly overlooking the Atlantic Ave flyover? I’d rather see those lots used for commercial development so people don’t have to live directly over such a noisy and polluted location.
What’s wrong with Brownsville?
oh, i forgot to add that i do think the organization is wonderful and does very good… i just take issue with the logistics of this place however.

whatever. calling 145K “affordable” to live in that area is looney tunes. you can get an equally nice apartment for the same price directly across the hudson river on the gold coast of nj (yeah yeah i KNOW it’s nj, but this is BROWNSVILLE for crying out loud)

I agree with all of the comments above. They are a great organization, one I also support with my small donations.
I’ve done lots of volunteer work for Habitat in the past. It’s very rewarding and a joy to work alongside the homeowners as they take pride in building their home.
They build nice stuff. There are three townhouses at the corner of Halsey and maybe Throop that are really far better looking than most developments and Fedder buildings
A very, very good thing in a community that can use it and one that I believe will appreciate the opportunity.
Wow, that looks nice. Nicer than a lot of COTDs. I love Habitat. I’m a big supporter.
