As Brownstoner has grown in size and scope, we’ve come to realize that there’s a need for a blog that covers a broader range of Brooklyn topics and that incorporates a broader range of voices. So we’ve put together a new site called the Brooklyn Record that will cover Arts, Restaurants, Events, Politics, etc. while Brownstoner stays focused on Real Estate, Renovation and Architecture. (We’ve got two new reno blogs coming down the pipe.) Brooklyn Record also has a Drudge-like section of links to daily hard news in the borough. We’ve got a group of seven or eight writers and bloggers who will be contributing the lion’s share of posts, but we hope the site will evolve to incorporate even more voices over time. We’ve been publishing in stealth mode for a couple of weeks so there’s a backlog of items to check out in addition to today’s fresh daily content. Like Brownstoner, the Brooklyn Record will be exponentially more fun and useful if readers contribute ideas and tips. We look forward to your suggestions and feedback as the site and its writers get their sea legs. Enjoy.

  1. THanks for the great Laugh CHP! Well anon 9:28, as they say, hoist by your own petard. And Clueless in Brooklyn- it’s “no”, not “now.” Jeesh- and you called Mr. B clueless.

  2. Anon 9:28 – so glad you’re in tight with the basketball brothers. I’m sure you and Michael confab daily.

However, he may take exception to the fact that you can’t tell the difference between him and Magic Johnson, who is a partner in 1 Hanson Place, not Michael Jordan. Please get your rich black folks straight next time. I know it’s hard when there are more than one of us, but please try.

And for the record, Magic Johnson has done a great deal for the minority community. He has the good business sense to partner with other savv businesspeople, mostly Fortune 500 companies, and invest in strong business ventures that will last, and continue to be supported by both the community and by the corporations themselves. If he happens to get richer in the process, more power to him. If you don’t like what he does, go out there and do better.

  3. It’s been pointed out to me that my comment yesterday could have been clearer.

As you might imagine, the first thing I looked up was the edntry on my beloved PLG. My complaint was that The only entry under “Lefferts Gardens” was about a series of muggings that took place NOT in our nabe, but in “safe” Park Slope (actually, the PS side of Prospect Park and Prospect Park West, near the Park). With all the comments about how “unsafe” PLG is supposed to be, the last thing we need is to have crime in other neighborhoods attributed to our area (the fact that the “Post” article was GREATLY exaggerated is another matter). Brooklyn Record also has our neighborhood name wrong (leaving out the “Prospect” part of PLG), but that’s a minor consideration.

That being said, I think Brooklyn Record has a lot of potential–I wish it well and plan to be a regular reader

  4. Looks great. But just got off the phone with Michael Jordan and he told me to tell you that you better take down the photo of his bldg or else he’s gonna kick your a***. Which reminds me did anybody else take a look at the ridiculous language on the website for that condo development where it explains that MJ’s fund is working hard to help out neighborhoods that aren’t predominantly white or some such nonesense. I guess they are doing this investment as a diversity play or an improve the blighted area play or something? Whatever. I guess it helps him raise funds and generate publicity by pretending that he’s out there sacraficing his capital for the poor black folks somehow. Maybe somebody else can explain this to me though.

  5. Mr. B,

Its ironic that the only entry for PLG is about a series of muggings in PARK SLOPE (Prospect Park West and just off PPW in the park). I know RE brokers sometimes list PLG under “Park Slope Vicinity” but this is silly.

  6. Don’t worry, we’ll still touch on things like restaurant openings, especially when they have larger significance for the evolution of a neighborhood. Plus, our time is still going to be focused on Brownstoner. We’ve got other people doing most of the writing on BR.

  7. Looks great! As your first poster said, another reason to not be working at work. I hope most of your readership visits both sites, and support both equally.

Although I originally came here for my architectural and renovation interests, I’ve come to realize that the larger issues of the day often intrude on our aesthetic sensibilities, and deservedly so. We don’t live in little house bubbles, we are part of the larger community. I hope you still “go there” from time to time on this blog.

Best of luck with all of it.
