This week’s open house picks are four townhouses in Clinton Hill, Crown Heights, Midwood and Flatlands. All of them have preserved period features and three could use at least some modest updating in parts. They range in price from $785,000 for a two-family brick row house in move-in condition with a garage in Flatlands to $1.796 million for an Anglo-Italianate brownstone in Clinton Hill with marble mantels.

First, in Clinton Hill is a slightly narrow Anglo-Italianate brownstone with a low stoop, center staircase with a handsome curving bannister, and other curved features, especially on the lintels and cornice. The marble mantels are also arched in the Italianate fashion. There’s picture-frame molding on the parlor level and on the staircase and a tin ceiling in at least one room. The listing is pushing a bring-your-own-architect renovation project; there may be room to improve some of the finishes and location of wet rooms. The floor plan shows it’s configured as a double duplex with a kitchen with exposed beams on the garden floor and another kitchen on the third floor. The bathroom pictured has a clawfoot tub and pedestal sink. It’s at 364 Grand Avenue, and the asking price is $1.795 million.

Then at 1090 Lincoln Place in the Crown Heights North Landmark District, an attractive 1905 Renaissance Revival brick row house has two spacious floor-through apartments with lots of original details but could also use some work. The bays stand out inside and out on this one. On the exterior facade, they’re wrapped in a white stone surround with a band with an ornamental floriate motif between the two stories. Inside, the front and garden-facing rooms are distinguished by leaded glass transoms on the parlor level. Some of the rooms have ornamental borders in the parquet that wrap around the bays. Other decorative details include crown molding, window and door surrounds, and picture rail moldings. We also see some replacement slab doors, a popcorn ceiling, wall to wall carpet and faux wood paneling in some of the rooms. The kitchen pictured was updated at some point, and the stairwell has a skylight above. A rear garden is paved in concrete with raised planted beds. The asking price is $1.35 million.

Then in Midwood, there’s a circa 1900 tan brick row house with an oriel window and a porch to see with some notable woodwork inside. Although somewhat remuddled inside and out, it has retained a good deal of original woodwork, including a carved newel post, door casings and a pier mirror with Neo-Classical columns. We also see crown molding and parquet with inlaid borders. From what we see of them in the listing, the kitchen and bathrooms have been redone at some point but could probably use further updating. Located at 964 East 32nd Street near Brooklyn College, it’s priced at $975,000.

Finally, at 1382 East 53rd Street in the Flatlands neighborhood, a 1955 brick row house comprises a duplex with a rear deck over a ground floor one-bedroom apartment and garage. The photos show attractive wood floors, a staircase with turned spindles, and a recently updated bathroom and kitchen in the duplex. The latter is open to the dining room and has stone countertops and patterned encaustic-style tile floors. It seems to be in move-in condition and is on the market for $785,000.
