We’ve got some distinctive properties for you this weekend, including a Beaux Arts mansion packed with elaborate detail, a standalone Arts and Crafts, and a house on a private mews by the water. Those are in Park Slope, Ditmas Park and Bay Ridge, respectively; there’s also an Italianate house with details in Bed Stuy close to the Clinton Hill border.

The first open house is one you might visit just to gawk; the house is a jaw dropper. It’s a massive Beaux Arts mansion on 8th Avenue in the Park Slope Historic District, loaded with detail that’s been “carefully preserved and lovingly maintained,” says the listing. Nineteen-foot ceilings, 20 rooms, seven baths, nine fireplaces, an elevator, a Tiffany stained-glass atrium, hand painted frescos in the dining room, acres of carved mahogany, beauteous and distinctive inlaid floors, a massive center staircase, moldings, medallions, mirrors. You get the picture. It’s currently a legal eight-family, so a possible candidate for conversion. There aren’t any pictures of all those baths and kitchens; updates may be needed. (It was a House of the Day back in 2011, when it was asking $11.8 million; it’s now listed with a different broker and the price has dropped considerably.)

The next one doesn’t match up to that, but it’s still pretty striking, and no slouch in the size department either. On Ocean Avenue within the Ditmas Park Historic District, it’s an Arts and Crafts house with some Tudor touches, built in 1914. It’s got six bedrooms and three baths (including one with original tile according to the listing), a newly renovated kitchen, four wood-burning fireplaces, including two massive brick numbers on the first floor, stained and leaded glass, a wainscoted dining room with a coffered ceiling, an enclosed porch and a solarium. There’s an in-ground pool and a hot tub in the back yard (not pictured in the listing), and a driveway. The roof, boiler, hot water heater and windows are new.

On Classon Avenue in Bed Stuy we’ve got a narrow Italianate four-story that started life as a brownstone but has had a sub-optimal facade makeover. The photos reveal some nice details, including wood floors, tin ceilings, pocket doors, moldings and marble mantels, of which there are seven. Work is needed, though, and perhaps quite a bit of it; the listing mentions the need for new kitchens, and baths and other areas may well need attention also. As it stands, the house, which probably dates from around the 1860s or so, offers double duplexes, though the layout on the upper one could stand some tweaking; it could be turned into a triplex over a garden rental.

Last up is a detached early 20th century brick house in Colonial Gardens, a private mews in Bay Ridge, off Shore Road. This one’s got an interior garage, which shares the English basement with a laundry room, a half-bath and a paneled rec room. In the house proper there are three bedrooms (with river views from the master), a living room with a fireplace, a dining room and a small kitchen. It could use some polishing, including refinishing of the parquet floors; and the kitchen and baths, which aren’t pictured, may need updating.
