It’s a brick house with brownstone details, built sometime in the mid-19th century. It was the home of E.G. Cowley, a cutlery merchant in Manhattan, according to the designation report.

The black marble mantel is a looker, and the simplicity of the other mantels and the window and door casings may indicate the house is a blend of Greek Revival and Italianate.

Currently set up as a pair of duplexes, it’d be a good candidate for conversion to a triplex with a garden rental, or a single-family unit.

It’s wide but not deep, at 22 feet by 38 feet — though there’s an extension on the garden floor. Total square footage is over 3,600.

There’s a renovated kitchen on the garden level, with cherry cabinets, a tiled floor and an island with a composite stone countertop. There’s a living room behind that, that leads out to the stone-paved yard.

It all looks to be in decent shape, but could use some reconfiguring and maybe some updating to bring out its potential.

The semi-detached house sits across the street from a high school and its adjoining school yard, which on school days could well put a dent in the peace-and-quiet quotient. It’s the yard where the Brooklyn Flea is held from April to November — whether that’s a plus or minus is in the eye of the beholder.

Listed by Steve Sallion of Warren Lewis Sotheby’s, the house is being shown at open houses this evening from 6 to 7 and Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m.
