This week, a look back at four of our featured listings from six months ago focuses on homes in Sunset Park, Carroll Gardens, Crown Heights and Bed Stuy. How did they fare?
A rare true two-bedroom in a Sunset Park prewar co-op, this second-floor unit at 546 40th Street offers a flexible layout, original details and low maintenance. We like the alternative floor plan — probably the original layout — but the current combined dining-living room is spacious, as is the nicely updated kitchen. The unit has high ceilings, French doors, parquet and moldings. This former Co-op of the Day entered contract in December.
This Carroll Gardens condo stylishly shoehorns two bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, five closets, a stacked washer/dryer and dishwasher into a petite floor-through in a 19th century townhouse. There are built-in bookcases, room for a piano, a banquette for dining, and a gorgeous soapstone counter that runs around the u-shaped kitchen. This former Co-op of the Day sold in September for $1.2 million, which was $50,000 over the asking price.
Designed as a two-family, this early 20th century row house in Crown Heights still has many of the original features, both aesthetic and practical, included by the builder to lure buyers. Fretwork, mantels, a pier mirror, plasterwork and stained glass are all here, along with the original dumbwaiter. The house, at 1451 Dean Street, hasn’t been on the market since the 1970s and there is a bit of TLC in store for a new owner. This former House of the Day sold in October for $999,000 which was $500,000 under the asking price.
In a row of narrow and ornate 1880s brownstones with impressive Queen Anne facades, this renovated Bed Stuy two-family offers up a few period details as well as modern amenities such as updated kitchens and baths. The house, at 478 Greene Avenue, is set up as an owner’s triplex with a garden apartment that hasn’t been occupied since its recent reno, according to the listing. This former House of the Day sold in October for $2.7 million, which was $205,000 over the asking price.
