There’s a common thread among our open house picks this weekend: all are single-family townhouses. So if your home ownership dream includes fielding late-night texts from tenants with leaking faucets, look elsewhere. Those who’d just as soon not be on the receiving end of such missives, which likely includes most of us, read on, and behold homes in Gowanus, the South Slope, Crown Heights and Bed Stuy.

First up is a charming Italianate brick townhouse on Sackett Street in Gowanus, which dates to 1880 according to the listing. It’s 20 feet wide, but only 35 feet deep, so it’s not exactly cavernous, but it’s got an inviting interior, with wide-plank floors, arched door frames, ceiling medallions, crown moldings and marble mantels. It’s got three bedrooms on the top floor, a double parlor on the parlor floor, and a living room on the garden level, with a small, cute kitchen in the rear. There’s also a finished basement — the floor plan shows an intriguing circular office in the rear, along with a rec room, den, half-bath and laundry room.

A point of interest: the house was “the longtime home of a religious order,” according to the listing. A further point of interest: the two blue-suited, bearded guys in the garden picture. It’s actually one guy, in case you’re wondering — one of the listing agents, Aaron Seawood of Compass. Just what the deal is there we really couldn’t tell you, but it’s one of the more interesting things we’ve encountered in a listing lately.

Next up is a brownstone on Stuyvesant Avenue in Bed Stuy, in the Stuyvesant Heights Historic District, built circa 1882. It’s a narrow one, a mere 15 feet wide. The house has been updated, with finishes not every buyer is going to flip for; there are some original details, including three fireplace mantels, though the floors, sadly, have been replaced. It’s got the kitchen on the rear of the garden level with the dining room in front; the parlor floor holds the living room with the master bedroom in the rear, and there are two more bedrooms upstairs, one with a massive walk-in closet.

The next one’s on 8th Avenue in the South Slope, between Prospect Avenue and 17th Street. This one’s as narrow as they come — a mere 12 and a half feet wide. And it’s only got two floors plus a basement, so if you’ve got a large family, move along. More wide-plank floors in this one, along with exposed brick and an original stone mantel. It’s got two bedrooms on the upper floor, with an office space tucked behind the sole bathroom; downstairs is a living room and a rear kitchen with french doors leading to the back yard, which is dominated by a wooden deck.

Last up, a two-story townhouse on Utica Avenue in Crown Heights, that looks to be newly renovated. It’s yet another narrow one, some 15 feet wide. (You may have noted a theme here.) It’s got three bedrooms on the upper floor, two quite small (one’s a mere six feet wide). There’s a living room, dining room and kitchen on the lower level, with an extra room in the rear that could be an office. It could also be pressed into service as a fourth bedroom, though you have to walk through it to get to the backyard, which is dominated by a concrete patio, though there’s also a big tree back there.
