Four Open Houses to See Before the Holidays, Including One With a Visit From Santa
It’s a rare event when you can scout a property for sale and get your picture taken with Santa in one shot, but this weekend offers just such an opportunity.
It’s a rare event when you can scout a property for sale and get your picture taken with Santa in one shot, but this weekend offers just such an opportunity. None other than St. Nick will be on hand at a Christmas-themed open house in Bath Beach, which also features homemade cookies and hot cocoa. No white-bearded visitors are promised at our other open house picks – which are found in Prospect Heights, Brownsville and Bed Stuy – but who knows, you might find a plate of Christmas cookies or some hot cider. It’s the season, after all.
On Putnam Avenue in Bushwick, we’ve got a three-story flip that’s been completely overhauled, from its brick facade to its wood-fenced rear garden. A bit of care seems to have gone into this one, which has some details like recessed ceilings and inlaid floors. It’s set up as a two-family, with a two-bedroom rental on the garden level (duplexed with a finished cellar) and a three-bedroom owner’s duplex above.
Next up is a Prospect Heights brownstone that’s decidedly less move-in ready. We can’t tell you what it looks like inside, as the listing offers no interior photos, but it makes it clear that an architect will come in handy for whoever buys it. It’s set up as a one-family with four bedrooms; the listing references details including brick fireplaces, tin ceilings, original woodwork and pocket doors.
Carolers are welcome at the next open house – this being the Bath Beach house where a Santa photo booth will be on hand. It’s “in keeping with the Dyker Heights holiday tradition,” say the brokers, referencing the extensive holiday decorations that draw onlookers to these parts every December. As for the actual house, it’s a tidy three-story semi-detached brick house with a whopping 3,262 feet of space. It’s currently set up with a unit on each floor, but perhaps could be reconfigured as a single residence or duplex with a rental. There’s a driveway and a garage topped by a front patio.
Last up, a 20-foot-wide brownstone with an angled front on Lewis Avenue in Bed Stuy that’s currently a dusty wreck. A buyer with vision and resolve could do something nice with it, though, and there are some fireplaces and original woodwork that could be saved. It’s got three stories plus a cellar, and a bare lot of a backyard.
