Here’s a renovation project for someone looking to give a Bed Stuy townhouse a makeover. This one’s a two-family at 971 Putnam Avenue, not far from the Bushwick border.
The extent of the work needed isn’t totally clear, as there’s a lot that’s not pictured. What’s shown, including a kitchen and a pair of bathrooms, looks to be in decent condition. Unfinished sheetrock on the ceilings and scratches in the stairway wainscoting suggest a house with loose ends hanging and attention required, and there are aesthetic matters to consider.

The house appears to have some original detail, based on what’s presented, including doors, window and door casings, the staircase, and mantels on each floor (although the one pictured has been altered). The floor plan is not original and the photos show replacement floors.
There’s an owner’s lower duplex with three bedrooms and an office space/dressing room; on the top floor is a one-bedroom rental with two bonus rooms — a dressing room and a windowless “den.”
The house, which is in lis pendens, hit the market a year ago at $1.279 and had some price fluctuations over the summer before finally settling at $1.349 million. Listed by Douglas Elliman broker Michael Geraci, it’s now asking $1.15 million. Think it’ll move at that price?
