Grandly Proportioned Brooklyn Heights Greek Revival With Marble Mantels Asks $7.25 Million

Back on the market after a 2021 sale, this 1840s townhouse in the Brooklyn Heights Historic District is a substantial 25 feet wide with five floors of living space. While some period details like marble mantels remain, some of the finishes date to a 1909 renovation.

Located at 116 Pierrepont Street, the house has a red brick facade and retains its brownstone details, including the Greek Revival-style door surround seen in the historic tax photo.

It doesn’t appear any major changes to the interior or the floor plan were made after a 2021 sale to St. Ann’s School for $4.985 million, going by the old listing. A plan to renovate the building for school use doesn’t appear to have been carried out.

At least some of the earlier alterations date to 1909, when newlyweds A. Merle and Fredricka Forman moved into the family home after a major renovation. The Forman family had been in residence since at least the late 1870s, and the house stayed in the family until the 1930s.

The legal two-family is set up as a single-family with a guest suite and family room on the garden level, a petite kitchen on the parlor level, two floors of bedroom space above, and an unfinished attic.

That petite kitchen isn’t pictured among the handful of photos, but the views of the parlor and dining room show black marble mantels and wood floors with inlaid borders. While the front parlor has crown molding, in the dining room a later alteration gave it a beamed ceiling. The floor plan shows a total of eight mantels in the house; the listing references six.

One of the bedrooms has an exposed beam ceiling and wood mantel while another has an intricately inlaid wood floor with a patterned baseboard.

There are three full baths in the house; the one shown has a stained glass window and mix of elements from that 1909 renovation. The white subway tile with border dates from that time, and later Deco details include the medicine cabinet and tub.

In the paved rear yard are planting beds with shrubs, trees, and perennials. Compared to the photograph in the prior listing, it looks like the green space could now use a bit of TLC.
