The multi-colored row of 19th century houses on Joralemon Street makes for a popular Instagram view, with the brick Greek Revivals, lush greenery and Bishop’s Crook lampposts presenting a classic Brooklyn Heights shot. The pale yellow house of the group, 43 Joralemon Street, is on the market for the first time in decades and has a few period details to offer in addition to the scenic location.

Built circa 1845, the 21-foot-wide dwelling is in the Brooklyn Heights Historic District and within Willowtown, a little enclave at the southern edge of the neighborhood. The brick exterior has sported its cheery hue for years and the house retains its Greek Revival-style brownstone sills, lintel and door surround as well as a wood dentil cornice.

Records show that the house had furnished rooms in the 20th century, but has been a legal two-family since 1969, according to the certificate of occupancy. It’s set up with two duplexes, and the upper one is more recently renovated, the listing notes. It has three bedrooms and 1.5 baths while the lower duplex has two bedrooms and one full bath.

Wide-plank floorboards can be seen through much of the house and the curving stair includes an original newel post. There are black marble mantels, including one on the parlor level, as well as a painted mantel in the house. As well, there have been plenty of renovations over the years. The lower duplex includes a parlor level with front and rear parlors and a kitchen inserted at the rear of the floor. The latter hasn’t been recently renovated, but appears in good repair with tile and butcher block counters, wood cabinets and a Dutch door providing access to the rear yard.

The upper duplex was updated to include an open-plan living and dining space with narrower floorboards. Other features include built-ins flanking a decorative mantel, recessed lighting and dentil molding.

A kitchen with black counters and tile floor, wood cabinets and a dishwasher faces the street. The half bath includes laundry.

There is only a glimpse of the rear yard, but the photo shows a picturesque stone wall, some shrubs and perennials and a space that looks like it could use some TLC.

The house was briefly listed earlier this year with a different broker at $2.45 million for a 50 percent interest in the property. Currently listed with Joan Goldberg of Brown Harris Stevens, it is asking $4.9 million for the full property. What do you think?
