It is indeed on the petite side, but this rental does come with a bit of outdoor space and the ability to boast of carriage house living on one of Brooklyn Heights’ picturesque lanes.

The one-bedroom is on the first floor of 11 Hunts Lane, a modest two-story 19th century brick structure that no longer has wide carriage house doors on the first floor — it also got some new brickwork and a stepped parapet in the 20th century — but does still retain the scale of the other former horse abodes on the street. The facade work may have been completed by 1926, when the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported that former stables on the street were being turned into “picturesque residences” and No. 11 was getting new, human, occupants.

The bucolic little lane pops up frequently in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle in the early 20th century, in reports of residents objecting to the lane being called an alley and descriptions of it as a beauty spot for artists. By 1928 the Times Union waxed nostalgic about a time on the lane “when horse was king” as even the most modest of the former stables “boasts a sedan,” with the now artsy residences having “more than a suggestion of Bohemianism about them.”

Today, a bright green door leads directly into the living room, which has wood floors and a bit of storage with a wall niche next to the front door and two closets. Those closets and the general layout of the unit are visible in the listing’s floor plan as well as a video tour posted in a previous rental listing.

The windowed kitchen has a tile floor, white cabinets, a dishwasher and access to the paved and fenced-in private outdoor space. There is room for outdoor dining or lounging, and someone with a green thumb could brighten up the space with planters.

On either side of the kitchen are the full bath and bedroom. As expected, the bedroom isn’t huge but is large enough for a bed and side tables and does have wood floors. While there isn’t a bedroom closet, there is a linen closet outside the full bath. The bathroom has white tile floors and walls and appears in good repair.

Listed with Vicki Negron of Corcoran, the apartment is priced at $2,800 a month. Worth the ask?
