Plenty of grand features still survive in this Bed Stuy duplex, offering a renter the opportunity to reside amidst some 1880s character. Occupying the parlor and garden levels of the Neo-Grec brownstone at 430 Greene Avenue, the duplex has unpainted woodwork, marble mantels, wood floors, and multiple pier mirrors. There are a few modern amenities as well, including in-unit laundry and a covered patio.

The front parlor — with high ceilings, two pier mirrors, moldings, and stained glass — could be fashioned into an impressive living room.

A stark white kitchen has been inserted into the rear parlor with much, but not all, the original woodwork left intact. A dishwasher isn’t mentioned or shown in the listing photos. An old listing provides a view of the small white stove. On the other side of the island there is room for dining, yet another pier mirror, and a marble mantel with original insert and modern tile hearth.

Two bedrooms are on the garden level. The street-facing bedroom, in the house’s former dining room, still has an original built-in, painted white, and marble mantel with some inset detail. In the rear bedroom, a door provides access to the covered rear patio. The photo has been virtually staged, so the condition of the paving isn’t clear, but there is room for seating and container plantings. The latter would provide a bit of screening from the rest of the garden.

The full bathroom has white fixtures and greige tile with mauve accent tile. An additional half bath isn’t shown, but is on the parlor level.

Listed by Stephanie Moon of Compass, the rental is priced at $6,500 a month. Worth the ask?
