This single-family brownstone in Bed Stuy offers some original details along with a renovated kitchen and baths.

At 967 Greene Avenue, the two-story Neo-Grec dates to the 1880s. Historic maps show the house and its neighbors in the row were built between 1880 and 1888. The two-story plus basement house includes the typical Neo-Grec exterior features of the period, including lintels ornamented with incised details and a fluting on the door surround. The historic tax photo shows a generously striped awning in place to provide a bit of relief from summer heat.

Kitchen and dining are located in their traditional spots on the garden level while upstairs are front and rear parlors and four bedrooms above. Each floor has a full bath. A 2013 renovation maintained some original details like wood floors, moldings (all painted white), pocket doors and mantels. The two marble (or faux-painted marble) mantels in the parlors are particularly fine with inlaid details, original inserts and, in one case, a tile hearth. A small study off the rear parlor has been outfitted with a built-in bookcase.

The front-facing dining room has wainscoting, a built-in china cabinet, a ceiling medallion and mantel. The eat-in kitchen at the rear of the floor has been given a traditional look with wood floors, apron-front sink and white cabinets and subway tile.

While there isn’t a photo, the floor plan shows and the listing mentions that the front and rear bedrooms are joined by a passthrough with built-ins and a sink. Each of the bedrooms has wood floors, a mantel and a ceiling medallion. The two smaller bedrooms are nicely sized for use as work from home space.

Two of the three full baths are shown. One has a more traditional look with claw foot tub and wainscoting while the other has an open shower and walls covered in wood-patterned tile.

Outside, the paved rear yard is enclosed with ivy-covered fencing and a planting bed at center. There is room for a few more plantings up front with a bed of hedges running along the fence-line and another bed along the stoop.

The house sold before the renovation for $580,000 in 2013. Now priced at $1.95 million, it is listed by Evan Church and Marvin Chu of Corcoran. What do you think?
