Renovated with a minimalist design aesthetic, this garden-level apartment offers some historic details like original wood floors, plaster ceiling medallion and decorative fireplace with some modern updates and access to the rear yard. It’s located at 82 Chauncey Street in the Stuyvesant Heights Historic District.

Designed by Amzi Hill circa 1889, the Queen Anne style house has a fetching exterior, with a high stoop, projecting bay, an arched and keystoned parlor level window and front door surround and a deep, bracketed cornice. Brownstoner featured the house as an Open House Pick when it was on the market back in 2017 and we referred to the interior then as “chic and minimalist.” Although at that time no views of the rental were included the listing, it looks like that chic reno extended to the garden level.

There’s an open-plan living room and kitchen facing the street and bedrooms at the rear of the floor-through apartment, a floor plan from a previous listing shows. A palette of black, white and gray has been used liberally throughout. In the living room this includes light gray wainscoting and trim with white walls and a decorative brick fireplace given a coat of white paint. There’s a pop of pattern and color in the ceramic hearth tiles.

The sleek kitchen has dark cabinets, white counters and white subway tile with dark grout. A mirrored wall above the backsplash bounces light into the space.

The larger of the two bedrooms has two windows, a fireplace opening with white-painted brick and one of two closets in the apartment. The other closet is located outside the second bedroom. That room is petite and perhaps ideally suited for a home office. A sliding door provides access to the rear garden.

The neutral design scheme of the kitchen is repeated in the bathroom, which has a black penny tile floor, white tile with dark grout on the walls and a claw-foot tub whose exterior is painted black.

There’s no mention of laundry so presumably trips to a laundromat will be required. There is a video tour of the unit available upon request.

Listed by Morgan Munsey and Perri Defino of Compass, the apartment is asking $2,650 a month. What do you think?
