This apartment for rent in an 1890s Bed Stuy brownstone offers some period details, two bedrooms and bit of outdoor space that a creative eye could enliven. It is on the garden level of the two-family row house at 842 Putnam Avenue.

The open plan living room and kitchen face the street and have a nice level of detail with wainscoting, moldings, a ceiling medallion and a mantel, all painted white. The original pocket doors that would have opened into the space are not in evidence, and the opening has been filled in to create a shallow niche with an outlet that might make a handy spot for some shelving.

A tile floor defines the petite L-shaped kitchen; some clever furniture arranging could provide a bit of visual separation between the areas. Despite the kitchen’s small size the appliances include a dishwasher.

The two bedrooms are at the rear of the unit. One has two windows and what looks like the original stove with part of it rather quirkily tiled over. The other bedroom has an exposed brick wall and a door out to the rear patio. That patio is underneath the deck of the upper unit and shaded from the rear yard with some lattice work, but there is room for outdoor dining and pots with shade-loving plants.

White subway tile covers the walls in the bath, which has white fixtures and brown floor tiles.
