Subsidized Renters at The Edge Getting Antsy

Seems that they were under the impression that they could move in last month. Not the case, says Edge management, March was always the plan, though they’d thought there was a chance of moving the subsidized renters in early. The hold-up? Seems DOB hasn’t coughed up to C of O yet.

Edge Community workers and management are liars. My husband works for the state and just to be concern for one of these “luxury†apartments, which is far from the truth, the apartments are the most basic apartment, you would ever see, nothing fabulous about them. BTW a family of 3 or more must have a total income of 55,000 to even get concern for a two bedroom. That income amount for all those who think these apartments are for “low income†families are wrong. Less than 30,000 is low income anything at least above 40,000 is working class and nearly to 60,000 is middle class.
Edge management has had our deposit since November b/c we receive letter that the move in date was indicated for December 1, 2009. This crap about March 2010 always being the time frame in which we move in is total BS. According to Edge Management (718-782-1102) they are “waiting†for the certificate of occupancy, this allows tenants to move in and without this piece of paper. People that have already sign the lease and put money down are still waiting for the call.
My family and I broke our lease, so can move into this affordable apartment and that was in November and we have been stay with our relative until Edge management decides they will allow us to move. This process of hoping and waiting is frustrating and sad. I know that they are dishonest people, who want to make the yearly mark that’s why they took our money in December and to make it worse they showed us our apartment.
The move in date, I believe is going to be near May. I feel the pain of those who expect but receive. Every one who feels like their being play for a sucker, speak up!!! Lets end this f-ing waiting game!!!
I have friends who won the lottery and they’re not related nor connected to the developers in any way, shape or form. They are a lower income family with a baby and 3 year old. They have been strung along for 3 months by The Edge building, which did not inform them that March 2010 was the planned month to move in. In fact, they rec’d a letter in January 7th or 9th, stating they could move in that month – which never happened.
What’s disgusting here, is the unethical BS The edge building is getting away with at the moment.
They asked families for a first months rent and deposit back in November – fully knowing that March 2010 was the month they were targeting.
There are 300 families who won that lottery, who are still without a home, in the winter months. Who just like my friends gave up their leases to move into their “affordable housing” apt. December\January 2009. The DOB is stating there are 3 more inspections yet to pass and that doesn’t sound like it would be completed soon…
The Edge building has been rude and lying to their new tenants – great way to start things off!
They should be investigated for their actions and lack of honesty. I wouldn’t doubt if this had to do with the luxury bldg. not selling all of it’s units…
disgusting!!!!
you hipsters & yuppies make me sick.. shouldnt you be painting?? or singing in the bedford ave train station??? or better yet, begging mommy& daddy to send more $$$ via western union?? Why dont you take the bike path to the highest point of the Williamsburg Bridge & take a swan dive. We’d all be much better off, even mom&pop in Minnesota, Idaho, Kansas, whatever yawn inducing state/city you leeches came from. GO HOME!!!!
those “affordable” units often wind up going to “poorer” family members of the developers family, contractors, poorer members of city polititians family, etc. if you dont believe that you’re clearly clueless.
*rob*
I wonder how many developers would build these developments if tax breaks weren’t involved and what the real cost to market rate buyers would be. Does anyone have any thoughts?
SD, when you can’t sell ’em, you rent ’em. This is what happens in a bubble–some folx actually benefit.
Having said that, they’re renters! Grouse away.
“Tell me again why people with lower incomes should have the right to live in luxury waterfront housing?”
So developers get big tax breaks prolly
Tell me again why people with lower incomes should have the right to live in luxury waterfront housing? Shouldn’t they be renting in Kew Gardens or Flatlands? At least in return for the subsidy they should be responsible for mopping the hallways or something.
Boo hoo – go rent somewhere else and I’ll take over your lease for you when it’s ready.
