After one month, they’re 0-for-8 over at 271 Greenpoint Avenue. (Granted, it’s about the toughest month ever for a condo debut.) What to do? Start chopping prices. In this case, all eight units, a mix of one- and two-bedrooms ranging from $449,000 to $550,000, received price reductions in the neighborhood of 5 to 10 percent. Here’s something else that might help: Including a photo of the building in the listing!

  1. Even with the toxicity, you could probably interest me in the location if the square footage was doubled. But that’s new construction in Williamsburg: 750 square feet and two bedrooms in it!

On the other hand, I guess those prices pass for what is considered reasonable right now. And better than what was being offered at a similar price in Bushwick…

  2. also, many many carroll gardens/park slope home owners are WAY closer to the severe toxic nightmare that is gowanus than the average dweller in greenpoint – especially those owning the historic townhouses off of franklin.

  3. These stories about the oil spill and other contaminants in Greenpoint rarely mention that the contaminated area is generally confined to a mostly-industrial area, very far removed from the historic district of Greenpoint, or the emerging restaurant / bar scene on Franklin St. Simply stated, it does not affect many residential units. Therefore, it would be nice if they started calling the oil-spill area “East Greenpoint” or something.

    Or maybe “Newtown Creek Shores”

That being said, anyone building new condos on top of the East Greenpoint oil spill deserves to lose their shirts.

  4. Goldie, ‘getting spammed/hoodwinked’ is the way to losing 25lbs in a month ;).

Seriously, 25lbs in a month is impossible, you can lose 10lbs, if you cut out starches, fried food and refined sugar and do moderate excercise.

^^^^^ This is my opinion. I don’t need anyone coming on here and declaring a lawsuit against me.

I’d rather have the price cut!

  5. “Needs another price cut”

or if no more cuts, in exchange i’ll take the big reveal of what this “1 rule” for losing 25lbs in a month is w/o having to click the link and getting spammed/hoodwinked (ad to right) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

  6. I forget the name of the online news company that produced it, but I watched a series of online documentaries called “Toxic Brooklyn” that basically convinced me I’m not interested in living in Greenpoint or northern Williamsburg. Between the oil spill, the radioactive material storage depot, and various other toxins in Newton Creek and the ground water, it seems rather hazardous.

Not that city living in general is great for the body, but why exacerbate it?
