Yeh, I guess I’m also in the camp of liking this better than some of the other new buildings on 4th Ave. Maybe because it’s more vertical. The huge bldgs like the Novo are just too monolithic and “white bread.”
But I have to return to my continuing gripe about the new development on 4th Ave: where’s the f***ing retail? Why so little attention to reinvigorating life on the street level? A number of these new bldgs have HVAC plant on the ground floor so presumably there will NEVER be cafes or stores in those locations. It seems like such a missed opportunity.
As someone who lived at the 1st street building on 4th I can tell you this:
living on 4th avenue is a bit of a nightmare in terms of noise and dirt
our house was super dusty(our apartment was situated where our LR faced 1st street and our bedrooms faced Carroll, but 4th avenue’s noise was always there. We also lived in a high floor.
The thing about the noise was this – if it rained, you would hear the cars that much more driving along 4th avenue b/c of the roadbed being wet. And then there was the constant “din” of just cars zipping along 4th avenue all hours of the day, so when we had the windows open our TV was turned up to like 60.
I do agree this building looks nice and you have an awesome commute being less than a block away from the R at Union!
rob, did you take whoever that was up on the $20 to be positive bet?
I think because the red brick and the gray bricks, with the silver trimmings have a dramatic contrast it gives the building a good look.
Unlike “Crest” and “Novo” which just fade into the sunset, and have nothing pleasing to the eye what so ever, this one has some strong characteristics.
Wow, a studio just under $300,000! It makes me feel a little better about my place now too.
^^ whew – was getting worried the world would end ^^
The front is nice but the back side is horrible – its as though they didnt finish it.
wow – no one hates it?
i like it too – but there’s been SEVERAL bldgs that have gotten hate that look exactly like this.
interesting design, a little Miami Beach Deco like.
