  1. The Saint Marks house is beautiful and looks to be in move it condition. I think the steep increase in value in a lot of Brooklyn neighborhoods is a result of the persistent drop in crime throughout brownstone Brooklyn opening up neighborhoods like Crown Heights to affluent buyers who wouldn’t have even looked there a few years ago. This is not necessarily just a bubble, but a real change in the perceived quality of life. The change already occurred closer in to Manhattan and it makes sense that it is spreading to the other neighborhoods with attractive housing stock.

  2. anon 2:03…your argument to keep things civil was great until you starting throwing low punches yourself.

yes it stings to hear other people’s negative opinions about a place that you care about, but dropping to their level isn’t going to change things. Relaying examples of what you love about your neighborhood just might, though.

unfortunately this is becoming (imho) a big issue on this site…all discussions seem to wind up becoming petty.

i happened upon your post when i was thinking about all of the heated discussions on this site, so please don’t take it personally that i’ve singled your post out to make these comments. i for one, would like to hear more about why you love crown heights so much-i don’t know much about the neighborhood. maybe an even tempered rebuttle might change some minds here….

  3. To the 10:36 A.M. poster who said that “Crown Heights is a dump.”
Please keep your crude comments to yourself. Many of us choose to live in Crown Heights because the houses are beautiful and we care about the neighborhood. Just because we don’t want to spend 2 million dollars to live in a “hip” part of Brooklyn where we have to live with two tenants to cover our mortgage, does not mean we live in a dump. Maybe you should stay out of Crown Heights, an area you obviously think is too expensive for you.

  4. As a recent brownstone owner in Crown Heights, neither of these seem totally unreasonable.

Corcoran’s moved into Crown Heights in a serious way–sending out newsletters with recent sales, etc.

Now Bed-Stuy? That’s serious overvaluing. Noise, crime, drugs, and services are much less in Crown Heights than in Bed-Stuy, Clinton Hill, or Fort Greene, which I attribute to less income disparity (not for long, I guess).
