Nothing’s hit public records yet, but an announcement on the Brooklyn Free School’s website says that the seven-year-old school has purchased the five-story brownstone at 372 Clinton Avenue. It’s about time! The 25-foot-wide house had been on the market since mid-2006. The most recent asking price was $1,999,000. Sounds like a nice addition to the neighborhood. The South Slope’s loss is Clinton Hill’s gain. GMAP

  1. quote:
students learn what they feel like learning

oh you gotta be f’ing kidding me :-/

kids are supposed to learn “what they WANT” on their own free time after school lol.

    *rob*

  2. When I was a kid my dad’s best friend was a graduate of the original Summerhill from it’s first group of students attending. He was an alcoholic brick layer, very unhappy and violent. On the other hand, he was really, really interesting.

  3. The sad truth is that students applying and attending Schools of Education have very low entrance credentials (GPA, standardized test scores) as compared to almost all other fields of graduate study.

For example – Teachers College’s statistics (test scores, graduation rates, etc.) are kept segregated from the rest of Columbia University… because it would bring down the average! And of course this is one of the best Schools of Ed in the country.

    huh?

This is for an elementary-through-high private school. It’s very unconventional–allegedly, students learn what they feel like learning, modeled after Summerhill.
