The Brooklyner’s not the only new rental building to hit the 50% mark this week: 34 Berry Street, the 142-unit project at the corner of North 12th Street in Williamsburg, sent out a press release this morning with the bullish news. Prices for available units range from $1,775 for a studio to $4,195 for a two-bedroom.

  1. “Yes, I think I am…. not if the difference was like $1300 vs. $1800. But these prices are CRAZY.”

Well the 1,000+ people who have signed leases here, The Brooklyner, 80 Dekalb, 184 Kent, Brooklyn Gold, Avalon Fort Greene etc all disagree with you.

You guys can say that these types of buildings won’t rent all you want. Fact is, there’s a huge demand for this type of housing in neighborhoods close to Manhattan (where most people work)

  2. Yes, I think I am…. not if the difference was like $1300 vs. $1800. But these prices are CRAZY.

Trust me, I live where I do because of its convenience to my work and various amenities. However, there’s a limit, right? Not to mention, this location isn’t exactly on top of either of the subway stations for the price tag (though, being equidistant from both the L and G is not horrible).

Do “creative professionals” work at home? Cuz that studio is barely big enough for a bed, never mind a desk.

  3. Tybur – North Slope is a 5 minute drive from Crown Heights, and houses cost 4x as much. Are you insinuating it’s silly for people to pay a premium to live within walking distance to amenities they use on a regular basis?

  4. I was just pointing out the price differential for this amazing opportunity to live on the picturesque streets of Billyburg.

In easier numbers… they are paying about $1,500 more per month than my apartment… which is larger and has similar ‘amenities’ (i’m sure 1/2 of the amenities they mention cost extra) More than DOUBLE the amount. Of course, I live a 20 minute car ride from there — thus the car service example.

It’s also just a 6 mile bike ride down the Bedford Ave bike lane!

that’s not very green, is it?

neither are the inevitable coke parties in this building’s rec room.

but yeah, im scratching my head about the car service example.

    *rob*

  6. “Actually — if you compare my new apartment to the largest (balcony-less) 1-bedroom unit… which is still smaller… you would have over $50 /day for a car service!”

that’s not very green, is it?

  7. What’s sort of amusing to me… instead of living in this tiny dorm room, you could live in my beautiful, very large 1-bedroom… and have enough money left over for $20 PER DAY for a car service.

Actually — if you compare my new apartment to the largest (balcony-less) 1-bedroom unit… which is still smaller… you would have over $50 /day for a car service!

    I just don’t get it.
