We told you yesterday about the brownstone at 196 Lefferts Place that partially collapsed on Tuesday night. Well, last night the demolition began. This photo was taken at around 9 p.m. UPDATE: Click through to see a photo from 9 o’clock this morning.

  1. When buildings like this are condemned for destruction, do the residents get a chance to move all their belongings out? All their furniture, clothes, – everything? Or, just the bare essentials since the building is structurally unstable?

  2. Wow, that was fast. What’s going on this week? I hope they don’t rush to judgement on MacDonough, too. But that block is landmarked, this is not. Might make some difference. I wonder if they can at least salvage the fireplace mantels. Small in the total scope of things, but something.
