Since the two duplex units at 45 Third Place (affectionately known as the Carroll Gardens Atrocity) hit the market back in September of 2006, not a single buyer has wanted the dubious distinction of owning a piece of what’s become the poster child for inconsiderate and non-contextual design in Brownstone Brooklyn. Surprisingly, in the face of this rejection, the developer has stuck by his guns and refused to lower the prices: The upper unit is still asking $1,555,000 and the lower one $1,595,000. Interesting that Brown Harris Stevens is hanging in there.

That place has mold!
They could have done this really well, and still gotten the modern vibe in, while having the exterior complement the original house. But they just grafted a Fedders on to the house. Lazy, lazy, lazy.
Right now it looks like a large featureless python house, jaw unhinged, trying to eat the original structure.
Is that extension humping the existing building?
agreed with the one above. it’s not that bad. from a certain viewpoint (one away from all the baaahing sheep) it’s kind of cool.
Looks like the gorilla glue that they used to hang the extension onto the old roof is oozing out…
Can you say “awful”? 10:47: completely disagree. The form, materials, and location of the addition reference almost nothing about the original construction. A couple of horizontally aligned window openings and purple Dryvit does not a contextual addition make.
There should be a slight setback of the new construction along this elevation, and the part that oozes over the roofline should be removed.
Every time I see this house I think of that old movie “invasion of the body snatchers”.
I know its taboo to say something positive about this, but from the outside, I really don’t think its so bad. That’s my humble opinion.
Tbey managed to keep the the traditional exterior facades, and at the same time, differentiate old from new. Which I don’t think is that bad. I know all of you readers know it could have been a hell of a lot worse.
Saying that, its a bit rich and I haven’t seen the insides.
