Carol Sudhalter loves music. One the one hand, she plays flute, baritone sax, and tenor sax. On the other, she has pioneered such gigs as the Athens Square Park Jazz Mondays series, the Astoria/LIC Waterfront Jazz Festival, and the Sunset Jazz Concerts also in Astoria.

In 1986, the Boston transplant founded the Astoria Big Band, which jams all over the borough — at street fairs, in churches, in front of carousels — to promote its namesake genre.

On Saturday night, this multi-piece band will fill Sunnyside Reformed Church with heavenly music as part of a free concert presented with support from the Queens Council on the Arts and the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs.

Details: Carol Sudhalter & the Astoria Big Band, Sunnyside Reformed Church, 48-03 Skillman Avenue, Sunnyside, June 6, 7 pm, free with suggested donation.
