Over the weekend, the New York Times recommended that the increasing masses getting priced out of Manhattan look toward the outer boroughs. Not exactly a groundbreaking revelation from the paper of record, but oh well. Here’s what they have to say about Queens: the median price for a single-family home (which is what most buyers in Queens are looking for) is $485,000. That’ll get you something like a two-bedroom, one-and-a-half bathroom Tudor home in Jamaica. The median price for a co-op is $185,000, and The Times recommends to look out for them “in red brick buildings in Kew Gardens, Corona and Jackson Heights, among other areas.” The median price of condos comes in at $390,000, although those sales are less common in the borough. According to a Queens-based broker, “Prices are going up out here because of low inventory elsewhere. But we are seeing people come this far out who still will commute to Manhattan.”

  1. Oh yeah sure. I’ll just go ahead and file this under the “no shiat” section.

And is this article really comparing Jamaica with Central Park West? No disrespect to Jamaica, but this writer is an idiot.
