Today Airbnb, the popular short term rental provider, released stats regarding its use in Queens. From August 2012 to July 2013, the borough saw a total of 680 hosts and 16,200 guests. And according to a study by Airbnb, the service generated a total of $12,000,000 of economic activity during that timeframe. $4,000,000 went to the hosts who rented out their spaces, and $7,000,000 went to local businesses in Queens. Here’s what Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky stated in a press release: “Airbnb is helping Queens residents pay their bills and pursue their dreams while giving travelers a new, authentic way to experience New York City by staying in different neighborhoods.”
Recently Airbnb has heavily promoted its economic impact in New York City, due to some murky legality questions.
