‘Tis the season and all – we’ve got a list of great seasonal cocktails you can find here in western Queens. Consider spiked ciders, hot toddies and mulled wines, as well as fab winter drinks like DiWine’s eggnog martini. Newly opened The Strand in Astoria has a great drink called The Liar’s Club, made with Larceny Bourbon, maple syrup and Brooklyn Soda Works hibiscus. So head on over and warm up with a timely mixed drink, perfect for December and all that comes with it.
Vintage trains running on the F and M lines
This time of year the MTA rolls out the subway trains from times past to the delight of many a subway passenger, train geek or not. It runs on Sundays from Queens Plaza or Court Sq-23rd St in LIC, or any stop along the M line in Manhattan down to Broadway-Lafayette, as well as the 2nd Ave F stop. It’s one of the great things to do in NYC during this time of year!
Amazing photo from 1925 Flushing
We loved this old photo from 1925 of Flushing Main Street – you can see the spire from St. George Episcopal Church in the distance. How this neighborhood has changed, wow.

Holiday season temperatures – warm or cold?
We asked our readers whether they think the holidays are better warm or cold and we got some fun answers.
@queensnycity Cold weather! Want warm? Go to Miami.. it’s supposed to be cold for #Christmas in #NYC.

@queensnycity Warm! I mean, i dont really associate the holidays with snow. 🙂

@queensnycity I admit to being a bit of a cold weather wimp, but also fear the environmental implications of 65 degree Decembers…

Be safe in those subway stations, everyone
We have been saddened by the death of Ki-Suk Han, the 58 year lod Elmhurst man who on Tuesday was pinned by a Q train at the 49th Street subway station, and died. This tragedy has caused a number of people to wonder how to handle escaping the tracks if they were forced into a similar situation. Here is a helpful and informative set of guidelines and advice if you’re ever in the same situation, written by a former graffiti writer who has spent a lot of time on the subway tracks.
