Barbecue restaurant Cityrib opened on the ground floor of the recently competed Moda building at 89-14 Parsons Boulevard. The 200-seat restaurant hopes to attract a family-focused clientele by offering a children’s menu for the kids and a wide selection of draft beers for the parents.

Uncle George’s Greek Tavern at 33-19 Broadway in Astoria closed with a note on the door saying it had been seized by city marshals. The neighborhood fixture opened in 1978. It reportedly owed almost $55,000 in back rent, according to the Daily News.

  1. Interesting re: Uncle Georgie’s. I walk by it every day, and the way it closed seemed super shady. One day it was full; next morning it had been completely emptied out of furniture, with a note on the door saying “Closed for Renovation.” The very next day that sign had been replaced with one saying “For Rent.” Now apparently it was seized by the city?! Very strange series of events…
