The Queens Gazette reports that last Thursday, January 17, the Queens Chamber of Commerce held their annual Building Awards and Reception at the LaGuardia Mariott Hotel (which we recently told you had been sold for $22 million – GMAP); they’ve been doing this since 1926. The Chamber of Commerce honored property owners, architects, and builders; 100 entries were submitted and out of that 21 winners were chosen. Categories include new construction; rehabilitation, re-adaptive use, alteration or addition; interiors; and public work, infrastructure and civil projects.

Among the winners was Joseph Pistilli, who was given the Lifetime Achievement Award – he is chairman of the board, president and CEO of First Central Bank, and founder of Pistilli Realty. One of his most well-known projects is Pistilli Riverview East, an apartment community in the reworked/renovated/redesigned property that was the Eagle Electric Building (they say this construction drove out the prostitutes and rats that used to live in that abandoned building). Resorts World Casino New York City was inducted into the Building Awards Hall of Fame.
