Last Friday morning, Jackson Heights residents and local pols rallied in front of the 79th Street Starbucks because the coffee chain has been dumping trash all over the street. DNAinfo attended the rally, where residents claimed that for several years Starbucks has left open bags of coffee grinds, food and other trash around the street oftentimes for 12 hours or more. The store manager declined to speak with Council Member Daniel Dromm on the matter and hasn’t been responsive to resident complaints.
The Starbucks did receive a summons in January 2013 for a dirty sidewalk and paid it in full. Residents are asking that Starbucks arrange trash pickup along 37th Avenue particularly to avoid problems with the residential buildings next door. According to a Starbucks rep, “We’re looking into this immediately and making sure that our standards are being followed.”
