The Village Voice took a trip out to Jackson Heights and found Chicken Festival, a small chain of Peruvian restaurants here in NYC. There are additional locations in Astoria and Bayside. While the rotisserie chicken gets good marks, the Voice crew loved the jalea, “a standard of Peruvian cuisine, consisting of sea creatures fried in abundance and heaped on railroad ties of fried yuca.” We won’t deny that this sounds pretty tasty.

The cornmeal crusted seafood included “shrimp; corvina (a white-fleshed fish favored in South America); giant squid rings, probably really a cuttlefish, and mussels fried in their shell.” A “personal” serving ($16) is huge and they also do a serving that is twice that size for $25, and it probably would feed a small family.

Other dishes include Peruvian standards like lomo saltado (meat and fries, mmm), tallarin (Chinese-peruvian lo mein), and the rotisserie pork ribs sound mighty tasty. Sure, there are a bunch of Peruvian chicken places in Jackson Heights, but a number of times we’ve heard people speak highly of the chicken. Sounds like it’s time for a Peruvian feast!
