The photos in this one-bedroom listing at 73-37 Austin Street in Forest Hills are so dark it’s hard to form much of an opinion about the co-op apartment at all. The building, known as the Holland House, has a nice prewar vibe and a formal lobby. Asking price on the apartment is $289,000.

  1. This is a great building and it is one example of the diversity of housing that is available in Forest Hills. People who are not familiar with Forest Hills often think that Forest Hills housing is made up exclusively of singe-family homes. But there are also many apartment buildings in Forest Hills. These buildings are also very diverse–ranging from pre-war co-ops (like Holland House) to post-war co-ops (like the Continental and Kennedy House) to condos (as has been featured in Brownstoner Queens, a new 17-story condo building is currently under construction on Queens Boulevard right next to the 71st Avenue/Continental subway stop).

  2. I usually only comment on Brownstoner Brooklyn, but couldn’t resist this one. I grew up in Forest Hills in the ’50s. The Holland house was by far the best apartment building in the neighborhood–much fancier than my building a few blocks away, at 76th Road & Austin Street.

BTW, the location shown on the map in the ad is almost a mile west of where this building is actually located.
