The Sunnyside Post reports that the old Firewater Inn in Sunnyside, which closed in 2011, will open up in February 2013, renamed as Jack’s Sunnyside Ale House. “Jack” is the McGowan’s late father’s name; the kids ran the Firewater Inn after he retired, and feel that since the neighborhood is changing, they better change with it.

Here’s what the Firewater Inn looked like when it was open:

In April 2011, they demolished an old garage that was in the back, too. There’s video here, if you are curious.

Apparently the McGowan kids didn’t expect to be closed for quite this long. The reason? “We had a crummy architect who didn’t understand the new zoning laws.”

Whey they open as Jack’s Sunnyside Ale House, they’ll have a beer garden (perhaps where the garage used to be), a kitchen (they used to prepare food on a grill in their backyard), and eventually a raw bar.

Firewater Inn revamp to be complete by Feb. 2013, owners say [Sunnyside Post]
