Calexico, the Brooklyn-based winner of Zagat’s Best Mexican restaurant, has already grown to include two restaurants in Brooklyn, three carts, a Barclays Arena concession and a franchised location on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. And soon, according to a story on FastCasual.com, Queens will be getting a taste of the action. Calexico has signed a 10-unit franchise deal for the Queens and Long Island region. No word on specific location yet. Where in Queens would you like to see them expand?
As a lifelong Jackson Heights resident we really need some solid dining options . Ditto to Jim , I wish i could go out for great food in my own neighborhood and not have to travel to other nabes for what I want.
Jackson Heights is a no brainier. They would clean up. There are surprisingly no decent Mexican restaurants in a hood that would flood one with business. Just look at Ayada, which delivers with incredible Thai food and can hardly keep up with demand. JH is waiting…
I’m in total agreement with Mark and Andres……a nice sit-down Mexican place would clean up in Jackson Heights! Ayada is amazing and we’d all like some additional options like this with great food and a pleasant atmosphere.
I vote for Elmhurst (maybe the mall or on Queens Blvd.) and the Atlas Park Mall in Glendale – let’s get some Mexican food in that neighborhood. Also, I think it would be cool if they put one in Flushing near Main St and Roosevelt. It would be a completely different food option for people over there.
Sorry Guys, I think Bayside on Bell Blvd! We have Tequila Sunrise, a big loud, noisey Mexican restaurant that used to be decent, which is now HORRIBLE and a smaller one closer to the LIRR named Cinco De Mayo that I don’t know how it pays the rent. Calexico would be a fantasic addition!
Completely agree w/ Anonymous- Sunnyside all the way!!!
I’ll take it in Sunnyside South if people don’t want it in the Gardens hehehe
Although they will have Chips and De Mole to compete with
I vote for Forest Hills. I think this place would do very well in FH. There is currently only one independent Mexican restaurant in FH (5 Burros) and it is always packed with people. I think another high-quality Mexican place would be very successful in FH.
By the way, we also have a Chipotle in FH, which opened about 6 months ago. Rather than “ruining the character” of FH, I think the Chipotle is a great addition to the neighborhood. It is an upscale fast-food restaurant and I feel that it, along with other recent openings in FH, has helped to improve FH and to make the neighborhood more upscale.
Jackson Heights…..you hit the nail on the head, Jim!!!!
