UPDATE - shuttered OTB on 31st Street in Astoria to be a sports bar

We wanted to update you on that shuttered OTB on 31st Street in Astoria  – the one was would be turned into maybe a lounge. Upon further look at their DOB records, the business name is 31st Street Sports Bar. Not the most creative of names but it gets the point across. And maybe they’ll change it at some point, you never know – the current Ditmars Station, another sports bar across the street, used to be called YOLO (You Only Live Once).

We peek in each time we walk by and the door is open but from what we can tell, they still have a lot of work to do in there. The space is huge, so that’s understandable.

Chatter over the years in the neighborhood has been favorable to sports bars. For the longest time, the only sports bar in the Ditmars area was McCann’s, which is still there; then Ditmars Station/YOLO opened up. Seems that there is room for another sports bar, too. We’ll keep an eye on this one.
