Yesterday, Council Member Peter F. Vallone Jr. announced coming improvements to the Triborough Bridge Playground-A, on 21st Street and Hoyt Avenue North, in Astoria. Improvments will include two all-weather permanent ping pong tables, the reconstruction of the handball wall, two new volleyball courts, exercise equipment, and new drains and fences. Council Member Vallone allocated $275,000 for renovations and the Queens Borough Commissioner of the Parks Department secured matching mayoral funds. Here’s a quote from Vallone regarding the news: “Volleyball and ping pong are sports I’ve grown up playing and are great to participate in at any age – but unfortunately it’s sometimes difficult to find a place to play. I’m excited to bring these activities to Astoria and bring this long dormant park back to life.” See a picture from yesterday’s event after the jump. GMAP
glad to see they’re doing something with this. i’ve driven past that park and it always looks so depressing especially in the context, across from astoria park.
