Last week we joined a group of local bloggers to taste some of the dishes on the new menu at 5 Napkin Burger in Astoria. We ate tasty food in the company of Sue at tastoriaqueens, Bradley of Amuse * Bouche, Rachel of Spam is Better Fried, the elusive Astoria Haiku, Mark from SingleCut, Tracy from Astoria Social Media, Mackenzi from We Heart Astoria, and Laura of 89th and Broke.

Everything was very tasty  – our favorite was the pesto flatbread.

There were also wasabi deviled eggs, a great riff on the traditional mild deviled eggs.

And on the spicy subject, crispy fried calamari “diavolo” – the calamari was indeed crispy and came with a tasty tomato sauce.

It is hard to resist guacamole, and 5 Napkin’s was very good.

We chose for our main course the tacos. There were three of them, each filled with something different – grilled mahi, pulled pork and chipotle chicken. The mahi was a standout among three very tasty tacos.

There was a lot of pleasant and convivial conversation among the bloggers – like the fact that spam is an important food in Hawai’ian culture and can be prepared in a very tasty way (H/T Rachel). Also that SingleCut is going to serve meat pies soon (H/T Astoria Haiku), which we later heard confirmed by the Happy Hour Guys.

Happy bloggers chowing down

We’re glad to see 5 Napkin’s menu expanding – we only wish the amazing hand rolls were still on the happy hour menu! Seriously, they are ridiculously tasty.
