As you may know, the city runs an adult lap swimming programĀ at the public pools during July and August each summer. But what you might not know – unless you are participating in the program – is that during that time there is a competition held among all the pools around the city, with the goal being for each pool’s swimmers to collectively swim the longest distance.

Well, the counts are in and the winner is… Astoria Park Pool! Yes, the swimmers at Astoria Park Pool swam the most miles of any other public pool in NYC. The numbers includes mileage from both the Early Bird swimmers (7am-8:30pm) at 1,276 miles, and the Night Owl swimmers (7pm-dusk) at 1,202 miles. The news was shared at the annual awards ceremony last Wednesday evening at Hamilton Fish Pool in Manhattan.

In addition, there was a 200 meter freestyle relay race completed at the party by teams from all 19 pools in NYC , and the team from Astoria Park Pool also won.

Congratulations, Astoria Park Pool adult lap swimmers!
