QCH Full Entrance

ArtConnects New York teamed up with the Queens Community House to install artwork at Queens Community House locations in Forest Hills, Kew Gardens and Pomonok. The artwork ranges from mural pieces to video installations to sculpture work, the idea is to highlight work that compliments the tremendous scope and diversity of the Queens Community House demographic. Bradley Silk, the project’s curator, told us he sought out artists with work that was fun, interactive, and engaging. He recruited the artist Marcus Linnenbrink, whose work is pictured above, to create site-specific murals for the Forest Hills and Pomonok sites. As Silk explains, “We were lucky enough to have him agree to paint two [murals] in the entryways, highlighting the span and connection of QCH and its community.” They also worked with artists Marty Holmer on a site-specific mural, Tony Luib on small sculpture work, Laura Napier on a video installation, and Jessica Lewis on a wall text drawing. The artists Jenn Dierdorf and Robert Lobe both donated sculpture pieces. For more details and photos of the artwork, click after the jump. The grand opening for the QCH Art Exhibit is scheduled for Friday, September 20th.

Robert Lobe’s donated sculpture piece, which was installed at the Kew Gardens site. Silk says, “The donated work is fashioned from hammered galvanized iron and hammered, pre-painted aluminum, but reads a very realistic tree rooted to a stone bed. His work is stoic, but acts as a reminder of the eternal struggle of Man vs. Nature, imploring the community to set their own path.”
