We mentioned it last week, so this is just a reminder  – Astoria residents will be able to check out a one-day pedestrian plaza at Newton and 30th Aves on Saturday from 7am to midnight. The plaza is a DOT experiment to see whether or not a pedestrian plaza will work for the community at that site. This area has been a historically dangerous intersection for pedestrians vs. cars, so turning it into a pedestrian plaza and removing the automobile element could potentially solve some of the safety problems people have been concerned about for some time.
