According to Midrash interpretations of the Old Testament, Adam’s first wife was Lilith, who was created at the same time and from the same dust. She demanded to be her mate’s equal and fled the Garden of Eden, only to be replaced by Eve, who was created from Adam’s rib. Today, December 20, Flushing Town Hall presents Lilith – Mother of Dreams (Premiere at Historic Haunted Opera House on the Eve of Eternity), a “modern American suitcase opera” inspired by this woman who appears in mythology throughout the world in various forms, often devilish. Lilith – Mother of Dreams results from a collaboration between four highly acclaimed artists: composer-clarinetist Demetrius Spaneas; poet-violist Alexandra Honigsberg; soprano Christina Rohm; and pianist-conductor James Siranovich. They will be on hand to introduce the work beforehand and answer questions at a reception afterward.
