It’s hard to describe “Latin Jazz.” Its influences come from all over the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking world, as well as Africa and even New York City. On March 23, the genre’s richness and diversity will fill Flushing Town Hall with Latin American Jazz: New York Faces. With an open dance floor in front of them, three world class ensembles will offer their takes on these rhythms. Puerto Rico native Ricardo Rodriquez will demonstrate the beauty of the bass with his orchestra, while Victor Prieto will pay homage to tango, classical & Celtic music with his accordion. Plus, Chia’s Dance Party will produce infectious, danceable grooves of Colombian music and original tunes. With so many sweet sounds, event-goers might not get a clear definition of “Latin Jazz” at this concert, but they will certainly love everything they hear.
