Peking

The term “Peking Opera” actually refers to a traditional theatrical art form, not a music style from a certain geographic location. Peking Opera, also called “Beijing Opera,” combines music with songs, comedy routines, acrobatics, mime, dance and extremely colorful costumes. On February 7, the Flushing branch of the Queens Public Library will host an afternoon of arias and episodes from two famous Peking Operas —  Filial Visit of the Fourth Son (pictured above) and Henpecked King — presented by the New York Chinese Opera Society as part of a Chinese Lunar New Year celebration.
