Last Saturday, we highlighted an event in Astoria, Hellgate Horror.
The family has been doing this Halloween haunted house for a number of years now, and they always offer it up to the local community free of charge. On a local message board, there has been some love expressed for the event and the families behind it. We were totally charmed reading it and thought we’d share some holiday goodwill with our readers. First, from a grateful visitor to the Hellgate Horror:
To the Families that do the Hellgate Horror:
You Rock!!!!!
The fact that you put together a fun night of spooky images, complete with creepy twins a la the Shinning, and did it for free, to invite the neighborhood, means you are all very cool and creative. My kids heard the howling then said the didn’t want to go, then they finally did. The enjoyed it so much they went for a second time. I finally went in, and was just taken with the work that went into it. I’ve worked in two haunted houses, and the Jekyl and Hyde downtown club. I know a little something about scary. You all did a wonderful job, without going too far. (the chicken in me really appreciated that). My only wish was that it wasn’t just for one night. Thank you for sharing with all of us, and I look forward to next year.
And from the families behind Hellgate Horror:
A friend of mine just told me about these very kind words that were posted on Astorians about the Hellgate Horror. I am so touched that people enjoyed our haunted walk. This is our 4th year doing it and hopefully will keep up the tradition every year. Hearing such great things about make it all worth it!
Thank you for coming!
Hellgate Horror Family & Friends
So awesome. And maybe next year they’ll do it for more than one night.
