DNAinfo reports on the state of the artworks at the Noguchi Museum – many pieces made it through the storm with flying colors, but others did not. First, the good news. According to the museum, “The permanent collection of roughly 360 works — installed by the artist himself in the museum and sculpture garden he created for them — was unaffected.” The Noguchi staff spent time protecting the art by either covering or moving it.

However, several hundred works in storage did sustain some damage. These are many of the artist’s lesser known works, some of which do not even have names. This group of works is considered as the “residual collection.”

In order to focus on repairing the damaged artwork, the museum is closed but will re-open on Saturday, November 17. This is also the day the museum will celebrate Noguchi’s 108th birthday
