We got this great news from the folks at Okamoto studio – these are the ice carvers based in Astoria/LIC – about Shintaro Okamoto’s recent ice carving triumph:
We are excited to announce that Shintaro Okamoto of Okamoto studio, with mentor/partner Junichi Nakamura, placed first for the Single Block Classic at the 2013 World Ice Art Championship in Fairbanks, Alaska. The 60-hour competition involved sculpting a single block weighing over 4500 pounds of natural ice. Check out more pictures at Ice Alaska. We will keep you posted as Shintaro now continues into the 6-Day multi block competition. You can check on his progress via the webcam.
Amazing news! Congratulations Shintaro Okamoto and Junichi Nakamura, and we hope the rest of the competition/festival goes well!
